The United States government has recently introduced new tariffs on a range of products, including clothing and textiles. These changes, which were announced in an executive order on April 8th, 2025, may likely result in additional customs duties for US customers.
In addition to the tariff increases, the US government has also announced the elimination of the de minimis exemption for low-value imports from China. This means that from May 2, 2025, even smaller parcels (previously under the $800USD threshold) may now attract import duties. Also noting that these tariffs are in addition to product duties that may be applicable.
What does this mean for US customers?
If you're located in the US, you may now be required to pay additional import duties or customs fees when your parcel arrives into the US. These charges vary based on the origin of the product. All BlackMilk products have their country of origin listed in the product descriptions.
These new charges are the result of increased tariffs, and the removal of the de minimis threshold, which previously allowed many lower-value shipments to enter duty-free. These fees are enforced by US Customs and are not controlled or collected by BlackMilk Clothing. They are payable at the time of your order landing in the US and are not collected at the time of purchase, there are also differences on how the tariffs are applied based on whether items are sent via the postal service (standard shipping) or a courier service.
This situation is changing daily as ongoing trade negotiations take place between the Trump Administration and other Countries.
Which products are affected?
Not all BlackMilk products are made in China and many are made in-house at BMHQ in Australia and some in Italy. The tariffs applied to these products will vary depending on those trade negotiations.
How will I know if I Need to pay additional duties?
If your order is subject to tariffs and/or duties, your local postal service or customs agency will usually contact you with payment instructions before your parcel is delivered.
We recommend closely monitoring your tracking updates and checking for emails or messages from your postal provider once your parcel has shipped.
Can I avoid these charges?
Unfortunately, there’s no way to avoid these charges at checkout, as they are assessed by US Customs upon entry into the country. Shipments under 800 USD have the de minims in place until May 2 and parcels shipped through the postal service (standard shipping) are also currently being treated differently.
What happens if I choose not to pay the duties?
If duties are not paid, your parcel may be returned to us by the postal service. In this case, return shipping and re-shipping fees may apply. Please note that our policy on return to sender parcels is outlined in our Terms of Service.
